Rangoli: Happy dIpAvaLi !

On the occasion of dipAvaLi, I created this intricate rangOli wishing one and all a very happy and joyous festival of lights. Though conceptually not quite difficult, it took considerable time to execute. Enjoy the festivities and send me some goodies Smile Best wishes! Enjoy!

Rangoli: Autumn colours

The glorious colours of autumn leaves must be seen to be believed. If autumn comes, can winter be far behind. We had our first hard freeze today. Enjoy!

Rangoli: sOnA square - 3 rows, 5 columns - 23 dot elinated

Earlier, I presented to you a pattern wherein the row and column numbers are divisible by a common factor and one dot was skirted around. There even though the original pattern had two lines, the dot-eliminated pattern had only line and a sona square with that had two lines. Today's pattern has exactly the opposite characteristics. The original motif has 3x5 dots with a single line (top left). The central dot was skirted around giving rise to two lines (bottom left) and the sona square (right) has six lines (four cyan, one red and one white). Enjoy!

Rangoli: Trick or treat? Boooooo!

Here is a halloween treat. Children, be careful, don't eat all the candies on the same day! Save one for me too Smile

Rangoli: A twist to the sOnA tale! - 4x6 - elimination of 23.

I found a new twist to the sona tale last week. If one chooses a dot matrix whose rows and columns have a common divisor, we know we get more than one line. In the case of 4 x 6 dots (four rows and six columns), we get two lines (shown top left). Now what I did is to isolate a particular dot (2nd row, third column or 23 dot). When joining lines, I skirt this dot. Then, voila, I get a single line, not two. This is shown in bottom left. If I choose this motif and build a sona square, as expected, we get two lines (shown on the right). This is true only for this dot and its symmetry equivalents, not for others. Enjoy!

Rangoli: If a sOnA sqaure is filled ...

This is a modification of the inner design of the rangOli already presented ( http://www.ikolam.com/node/15040?p=1930 ). Many people asked me the question why I leave a gap at the centre. My intention is to make regular sonA squares or extended sOnA squares with two lines with a motif that has only one line. Here is a design for those who want all space to be filled. When this is the case, there are more than two lines, actually five in this case (one each of cyan, orange and pink and two red). Enjoy!

Rangoli: sOna rectangle - 1

Just as I described the sona squares, we can also create a sona rectangle. Here I am describing a sona rectangle made with 3x5 and 4x3 dot motifs. The symmetry is 222 (three mutually perpendicular two-fold axes with 180 deg rotations, two in the plane of the screen, horizontal and vertical, and one perpendicular to the plane). Enjoy!

Rangoli: navarAtri special

This is a frame formed by the extension of a hexagonal 4x3 motif. The overall symmetry is 222 (three 180 rotations north-south, east-west and vertical). There are only two strings with the usual up-and-down motion. Inside are OM ( ఓం ) and SrI ( శ్రీ ) in telugu script. See how the little circle after O is common to all of them. The crescents denoting the r sound in SrI below SI again form a nice circular hexagon. Both seem to look like flowers. I am denoting the divinity in these symmetrical patterns instead of attributing human form. Enjoy!
