About free hand lotus 3 : PRINT
Hello everyone!
This kolam is called the 'Sahasra-dala-padmam' or the 1000 petal lotus. It is drawn using 'maa-kolam'or rice paste. This is a very auspicious kolam drawn only in the pooja-room ( like the 'Hridaya-kamalam') and is not to be drawn on the doorstep where everyone will stamp it. I made this in my pooja room on the 'Guru-Poornima' day.

Dear All!
Voila! Your Sahasra-Dala- Padmam is ready! 
Thanks for the wonderful response! Ms Lata - just LOVED your "awesome!"
As for the tips, here goes:
1) We start with the basic 8 spoke radial , these will form the main lines.( the "plus" mark and "into" mark combined)
2) mark 5 dots - equidistant on all the 8 spokes.
3) Branch out 2 lines from each dot, on both side of the main lines.
4) When you finish drawing these branch lines on all the sides, you'll get the center portion of the kolam.
5) Then its only extension of the petals .
6) connect the 8 main lines with petal shapes first. (you'll get the basic 8 petal lotus)
7)Then, fill in all the other petals by connecting the tips of the corresponding branch lines, one after the other.

Good explanation of the technique and very impressively drawn pattern. Quite beautiful! I must try it on the computer. Is 48=1000

I count each diamond shape for a petal. I don't know what you counted. It comes up to 1016 approximately.
