About Happy Father's Day! : PRINT
Mother's day is observed in May when the schools (in the US) are open. Kids under the guidance of teachers engage in a lot of creative activities for their mom. Unfortunately or fortunately, Father's day occurs in June when the kids are at home longing for the beach or some such thing. No goodies for the dad except some tools or some such may-be-dad-will-like-this stuff

I disagree with you mOhanaji!
The teachers make sure to plan a craft activity during the last week of the school (prior to the summer break), and the students make something for the upcoming Father's day. The "surprise gift" or a hand made card for the dad is included in the big paper bag which comes home the last day of the school. This big bag normally contains things like the name-sticker from the student's desk, paper-works/projects done in the last month. The kids do a good job of not telling the dads about the Father's day "thing", until the special day arrives!
This practice is followed in Elementary school, from Kindergarten through 4th grade atleast. By the time, the kids turns 11yrs, he/she has already learned to make something for the dad's day, either with or without mom's help.
Usually, the dads end up having more fun, because this day occurs during the break. The kids are not saddled with any homework (as opposed to mom's day, when moms still have to supervise hw whether they had time to go out for a namesake dinner or not). I'm sure if Mrs.Rao was a member of this site, she would back me up.
Surya's bag had a painted photo-frame with her picture in it (picture taken by the teacher, frame decorated by students).
mOhanaji, it is time to jog your memory a bit, and tell us about all the father's day breakfast that was lovingly "put" together by your family for you!

Lata, you have correctly addressed the question to US moms!
Both Mothers day and Fathers day are new to our culture (my son in US will never wish me on mothers day saying it's not in our culture)!
