Nice magenta flower Judy! At the moment I need to get a handle on my imagination (it is running too wild), and keep doing my work, but I did want to let you know that, I'm going to bring in a separate section for Art images in our site, in the weekend. This one with contain only the art images of our ikolam friends (not kids' art). Although sometimes it is hard to differentiate the difference between rangolis and art, it would be better to categorize rangolis and art separately, I'll try to do justice in differentiating with all of our members' help of course! Smile
So, Judy, I'll upload your saree design images into the new section, because I know that they are not rangolis, but the motifs could be incorporated into rangolis anytime by anyone. Btw, they are very pretty!
I'll get that done in the weekend. I don't (or rarely) work in ikolam on Thursdays, on thursdays Lata takes many avatars during the day, and at night sometimes turns into a Kaateri Smile

Lata you are such a sweetheart!!! for starting a separate section on art images (i am quite sure i am the cause for you to do this - as i keep on loading so many art images) but as you said these motifs can be used by anyone in their own fashion... designs always give new ideas for creation and i am sure all the members of ikolam will agree with me....

i am glad you like my saree designs - please tell me if it is ok for me to load more of them - i will choose the apt ones though....

omg Kaateri ah??? - scares me as it is 1.43 am here now and i am trying to finish a kolam i started drawing this evening - will upload it now......

Kaateri is what my husband is reminded of when I come back home at 10:45 pm, try to ravage my kitchen for some left over food, without saying hi to him, and then turning on my pc to work on ikolam, if I still have the energy! Thank goodness only my oldest is awake at that time, and the others are asleep Smile
(Just imagine any lady ravaging for anything, with long free flowing hair! Doesn't it remind you of kaateri, I'm a vegetarian one, so no blood dripping)

by going thru your mails I understand you are all overworking, still enjoy and keep your self involved in ikolam. I am enjoying retired life with grand children and wondering where from you are getting energy to stay awake like Kaateri till midnite.

Actually, the answer to your question lies within your statement. You say that you're enjoying your retired life now, but what we people marvel at is; how did you ladies manage raising your kids, manage your work life, manage to get not just plain food on the table, but deliciously tasting food, and follow all these traditions all those years day after day, without some of the benefits of many appliances that we've today, and then find an outlet for more creativity during these retirement years??!! All of you have raised the bar sooooo high madam! Smile

My mom is not yet retired yet, and doesn't visit ikolam (she has NO IDEA how many cool friends she can make here, she thinks this is just a site where I display my kolams :0 ). Probably I shouldn't hesitate to mention here, that I'm my mom's oldest and also the laziest kid - her words and not mine! Sad

I've heard her use a commom saying often while we were growing up; amma 8 adi paanjaa, kutti 16 adi paayanum!! But, what I've observed is that, ella ammave 16 adi paayaraanga!! Talk about the pressure for the kids!
WHY DIDN'T YOU LADIES TAKE IT EASY?

jkmrao's picture

First, what is kATTEri? Is it something like a pEy^?
Second, hobby is always more interesting than regular work. But once it becomes
regular, it becomes a chore Wink
Third, you retire only when you stop working. As long as you do some work,
even without pay, you're not really retired. Retirement is a state of mind.
Actually, Chapter III is the best part of life Smile Last week, there was a
discussion on a book with this name on Diane Rheem show (NPR).

Regards! - mOhana

Here is a western Kaateri (a vampire):

What I initially meant was someone like a "mad witch", but the only word that popped out of my head at that time was Katteri, and then it snowballed! Smile

From what you've written, I can tell that you'll never retire! Smile
I like NPR discussions too, but don't get a chance to listen as much as I like.
