Bharani Deepam

About Bharani Deepam : PRINT

This is the kolam done with wet rice paste (for the first time I made rice paste for kolam, because there was no stock of dosa batter)for Bharani Deepam. My mother-in-law is a very good kolam designer (esp traditional padi kolams). But now, due to her age and health conditions, she couldn't execute it on the floor. So I asked her to draw the design in a paper and i re-produced it on the floor. Send us your feedback.

Very beautiful work with the twinkling lamps all around. I am a bit confused. The top is the view before the lamps are lit, right? That is also turned 180 deg with respect to the bottom, right? Congrats to the teacher and the student Smile

JKM sir, yes u r right. I have taken two photos seperately and merged it. The first one without diyas was taken from inside our home. The second one without diyas was taken from outside. Thats why it is turned 180 deg.

this is awesome.i am a novice and i'm trying to learn different kind of rangolis .just wanted to know how do you pour this paste on the floor to get such beautiful uniform lines......

Dear Ms Brijeshmihika

Here, in I-kolam, we have so many traditional kolam experts like Rajamma mam, Jaya Mam, Alamelu Ranganath mam, etc..... to teach you how to make traditional padi kolams. Anyhow, i will convey u what I know and learnt.

Take a cotton wade, first dip it in water and then dip in your wet rice paste. Place that cotton wade in between ur middle and ring finger and then press it using thumb. The wet maavu will then start flowing through ur fingers and u can now proceed to make kolams. When the cotton wade becomes dry continue the process as said before.
