thnks to everyone for ur comments.. first in a chart i ve drawn 2*2 squares depending on the size of the pattern...for this there are lots of cross stitch books available. Then i marked for each sqaure what color would come..then i placed this chart on the floor and fixed to the ground with cello tape...then i placed cumil on the chart.. preparing the chart is only a tedious job. rose patterns would be nice for this kolam.
