One more puzzle

I was just waiting for Rani madam's arrival.Since ikolam is on a holiday mood, I am giving some homework for the members to try to solve one more puzzle kolam.
Here is the picture of a puzzle piece with dots. You have to use this design/piece 25 (twenty five) times and make a rangoli.
This puzzle also given by one Mr. Thambiraasu in an old magazine (1983).I didnot get the next issue with the answer. But I have solved it and will upload the same in the rangoli-upload coloumn.
Will wait for one week for interested members to solve this. PLEASE do not upload your answer in the CAFE coloumn. In the regular rangoli upload if you send, then Lata/ Admin will be able to release all the entries on the same day.
Any clarification needed?
All the best.( Those who are well versed with computer drawing like Suba, Anirudh, Push, and Chandini can solve this very easily. pl. give a try.
All the best.

Lata's picture

What a torturing mom you are Rani! I wonder how Chandini feels about waking early for making kolams during her well deserved break! Biggrin

Let me share something that used to happen often in my house. I wouldn't make two trips to Aarushi's room to wake her up. I use to visit her room with a cup of cold water in my hand and didn't hesitate to pour a little on her after lifting the comforter off of her face! And then we had a running race all over the house...with the other members laughing and enjoying the sight. J)
After the first few times, she wouldn't give me a chance to call her name out the second time.

And guess what? Apparently Diya had assumed that I only poured cold water on older kids, and learnt the hard way that she was the older one ever since Aaru had moved out! She sure turned out to be quick learner indeed! J)

Surya on the other hand, enjoys water play, so I'm sure she will let me give her a complete bath with buckets of waterfall, come fall Smile

Lata, here also same thing ...between raghu and pavan...daily sprinkling water on the face and .keeping salt on the lips...then 3rd world war starts...

jkmohanarao's picture

Salt on the lips! Looks like a new kind of torture Smile Why not list all kinds of sweet (or salty) tortures? Regards! - mOhana

lakshmiraghu's picture

yes mOhanaji salt torture, water torture, music torture(keeps it loudly next to him) , sound torture (making different noises) , shouting torture , cellphone torture ( taking pavan's cellphone away n working with it) , fan torture (switching off all ac's n fans) , irritating tortures...............hahahahahahh

jkmohanarao's picture

When we were kids, we used to sprinkle some salt on the earthworms on the pathway, after a rainy day, and watch them shrivel and die.

Salt on the lips of kids! I hereby name you Cruella, Lakshmi.
But, honestly, thanks for giving me a new idea to torture. I can't wait to try it the next chance I get, and ofcourse I'll give credit you for sure. Biggrin

lakshmiraghu's picture

hahah..new title for me.. ...burt one thing first time don't try on kids...try with your hubby.... escapeeeee.....

jkmrao's picture

Looks like some of you are in consultancy business by advising intelligence agencies on methods of torture Smile Good money?!

Regards! - mOhana

lakshmiraghu's picture

hehe.. :O :O ...new business!!!!

Lata's picture

Sure, I can try with the biggest kid, but let's spice it up a little. Instead of using salt, I'll try the red powder from my kitchen, to add some drama. . Or better yet, use the white (salt) and red (chilli powder) for some design on the lip and wait for some smoke coming out of the ears |( Biggrin
I'm sure I'll get whacked hard for such a prank, Lakshmi. Hitting each other is something we've not experienced, yet. I'll let you know how it goes.

lakshmiraghu's picture

hahah iam eagerly waiting to hear hot... hot news....!!! then follow the Boss....hahahh Biggrin

Lata's picture

What can I say, you've got to try different styles in parenting, Rani, just like making different types of kolams.
C'mon, just sprinkle some water on Ammu next time in the morning, to wake her up and see what happens. Biggrin

ammuchandhini's picture

Ayoo....no way lata....next time when i enjoy my afternoon kutty nap(almost addicted to it)...may be she will do d same thing....who knows...haha

jkmohanarao's picture

You're all torturing the poor little girls, no presents for you for the next mother's day! You must have had boys, then you'll know how they would resist you!! Regards! - mOhana

ammuchandhini's picture

Good evening jkm sir....haha...no presents for mother's day aah...ayyo such a big punishment aah Blum 3 Wink

Lata's picture

Our girls already consider themselves grown up, Mohanaji, and so have stopped making me any home made cards or craft items for mother's day (no gifts). Nowadays, it is either special home made food by mom, or eat-out day, no matter for all special days (except for diwali or pongal which is when I put my foot down and refuse to go out for eating out). Smile
I would say boys are so sweet, and nice, and considerate, and very very nice! Smile

lakshmiraghu's picture

ah!!boys are sooo sweet?? :O :|can we exchange??? Biggrin

Lata's picture

Sure Lakshmi. Anytime. Biggrin

lakshmiraghu's picture

ha ha..pavan..be ready with your luggage..tickets may arrive anytime from C.A......

Lata's picture

Yes Pavan, be ready. But there is something I need from your parents for this exchange. I need your parents to sign an official document, so they don't change their minds after answering some of Surya's questions, for a day or two. I want to make sure there is no warranty, or a trial period. Biggrin

lakshmiraghu's picture

hahah....hmm.. surya...what is this? are you a question bank??..no probs I can manage you....he he

jkmohanarao's picture

They have a proverb - mortar was complaining to the drums Smile

Lata's picture

True. Biggrin
The girls in my home do not check this site frequently, so I take the liberty to vent a little to my friends, whenever I can. Another Cruella, so to speak.

Suguna Murugesan's picture

achacho lata Sad Sad sir guidance kolathai kaanom :O :O :O

Lata's picture

I was asked to remove it, Suguna, by JKM sir (I had unpublishsed it). Maybe he will upload it as a rangoli, to be showcased with others answer-rangolis, as Rajam ma'am had suggested in her post. Let's see what others prefer as well, and we'll do accordingly. Smile
It is nice to see you in action, after a gap. Biggrin

jkmrao's picture

Sorry, the original poster did not want any cafe uploads. I didn't fully go through it. That is why I has to remove it. That is a good puzzle. I'll publish it later.

Regards! - mOhana

Interesting 'Arattai kachcheri'of waking up the children with all the available so called 'tortures'.But I would allow them atleast to enjoy the morning sleep in the holidays!
Two days back,in T.V I saw an old movie song ( film.. chiththi) sung by P.Susheela madam .Actress Padmini will be singing the song to her step girl baby.It starts with "Kannurangu kan urangu kan magale, kaalam idhai thavaravittaal thookkamillai magale', meaning.... Little girl, sleep well now, after you grow up you will not get time to sleep.
How a GIRL will be forced to forego her sleep in the different stages of life is narratted in that song. So, dear friends, please allow the GIRL child to sleep in their childhood days! Wink

lakshmiraghu's picture

hehe ... applicable for only Girl child...aaaa.....appada escaped from intelligence agence... helo "some body".... Biggrin

ammuchandhini's picture

Lata's picture

Alas, there goes my chance to have some fun with my new learned tricks Smile

dibbutn's picture

Rajamma maam, I think like you too... I too let my nephews sleep (though not overdo it) during holidays and laze around and enjoy themselves during their vacation. I remember when my nephews were small and I used to put them to sleep, I used to sing this song to them and they would listen to it so very intently.. The song, if you listen to it, I feel holds good even to boys as well, maybe the tasks are different... For all those who want to listen to this beautiful song here is the link... one suggestion, listen to the lyrics very carefully, they are really awesome... Hope you enjoy this beautiful song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1aYXL4SGRs

vidhyaprasu's picture

Really excellent pushpa, This is the first time i am hearing the song...beautiful lyrics... Smile

dibbutn's picture

Nice interesting discussion going on Wink J) Biggrin Biggrin ...You must come and see what boys do...thalaiya pichikalam pola irukkum... Sad :tired:

ammuchandhini's picture

Rajamma mam...i tried this puzzle as a rangoli but could form with 24 pieces only...pl let me know if exactly 25 pieces can make this puzzle rangoli Smile or it is ok with 24 pieces...u won't cut marks for that one missing piece na....haha Blum 3

rajamma's picture

Rani, in that magazine they have asked to form a rangoli with 25 pieces. Try if u don't get then upload your 24 version. But it is possible with 25..pieces. Mine is ready

ammuchandhini's picture

Oh is it possible...but as i have already uploaded my rangoli....thanks for giving me (and ammu) another chance for another rangoli...haha J) J)

jkmohanarao's picture

Hint: Take a hexagon and add hexagons to it all around. The number goes on as 6, 12, 18, etc. Actually the best pattern is obtained with 37 original motifs. 25 leaves a few gaps, but is doable. I'll load mine tonight as a regular rangOli. Sorry for jumping the gun earlier. Regards! - mOhana.

PS: This is indeed a very good puzzle and I am going to use it as an assignment for a course I am giving as it enumerates principles of covering the space.

ammuchandhini's picture

Thanks jkm sir...shall try as per ur suggestion Smile actually my daughter tried just as u've mentioned....she kept on making hexagons and did a big kolam (just like we here say a thaambaala thattu kolam)...its then i asked her to use only 25 pieces and then she too ended up in a big hexagon design with 24 pieces Smile

jkmohanarao's picture

Did you forget to count the central one? Regards! - mOhana

ammuchandhini's picture

No jkm sir....all together (if kept 23x11-interlaced dots) myself and my daughter got exactly 24 pieces joined without leaving any gap :~

rajamma's picture

So I think we are going to having different different solutions to this puzzle! mine is already ready for uploading, but I am waiting, thinking Lata is trying her version.Where is Suba and Anirudh, will be interesting if they also join.
Happy that mOhanaji is giving hints to encourage the members.

ammuchandhini's picture

Achacho rajamma mam myself and ammu ...I think have uploaded d wrongly formed rangoli...though it looks a complete one...even yesterday d whole evening she was trying and trying to form with 25 pieces....but still hasn't succeeded...lets see who else is submitting d correct one other than urself and jkm sir Smile
