Puthandu nal vazhthukkal(happy tamil new year).Friends, all the kolams are done by my MIL who is 73 yrs old. I am deepa her daughterinlaw uploading her kolams here.all the comments are from her .I communicate it to you all.

Dr Rekha, Today is Tamil New Year. Ugadhi is Telugu new year day which was on 04/04/2011.

There is nothing like a Tamil new year's day or a Telugu new year's day! There is a lunar new year's day followed mostly in AP, K'taka and Maharashtra. The rest follow the solar new year like puttANDu in TN, baiSAkhi in the north or poilA baiSAkh in Bengal, vishu in Kerala and Orissa, bihu in Assam, bisu in the mangalUru area. vishu actually means equal parts. The day and night are equal on the day of equinox and hence this name. But our calendar is totally out of sync. We are celebrating the new year three weeks after the vernal equinox
