I would like to share with you an incident that happened in India, a long time ago.
Many years ago, in a village called Melayur, in South India, there lived an unmarried girl in her early twenties. One day, for reasons unknown to many people in her village, she committed suicide by setting herself on fire. Some people believed that her soul did depart, and that a few places in the village were haunted by her spirit. From time to time, people would claim that they heard an unusual, spooky screeching noise during their late night walks, or when they were getting ready to go to bed at night. Back in those days, there were more people who believed in the existence of haunted souls.
Events that got over in May; Prom and Hindi utsav.
Events to look forward to; Senior Graduation, Bala utsav and Dilworth talent show.
Today we attended the Dilworth - 5th grade spring recital program. Diya had been looking forward to this one for quiet a while! She was given a solo-part in singing a song from the popular movie "Sound of music" (Aidel weiss), in her school-chorus program. The girls did a fabulous job in singing as well as in playing the drums.
On May 10th (Mother's day), we attended a unique discourse-concert entitled BHAKTI SUDHA presented by one of Bay area's well known Carnatic vocal music teacher, Smt. Jayashree Varadarajan. The concert featured renditions of and explanations on selections from beautiful compositions of Saint Purandara Dasa and Saint Tyagaraja that expound devotion or Bhakti as the path to realize God and as a means to salvation.
On the occasion of Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda's Jayanthi (birthday celebrations) on May 8, 2009, the Yuva Kendra senior students performed a puja at Gurudev's altar (guided by Pandit Ravichandran).
