A very happy Eid al-Fitr to all my muslim friends!
The ikolam.com web site will be undergoing maintenance on Sep 10, 2007 (10:00am - 5:00pm PST) and will be unavailable for access. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Wishing everybody a very happy krishna janmashtami!
My cousin sent me a dotted kolam from her collection. Although the design was a familiar one, its name wasn't. It was titled "Thulkachi Mundaani". She doesn't have an explanation regarding its origin or any other info regarding that. It would be interesting to get any information from our visitors/kolam fans about this design and its name.
Wish you all a happy ugadi!
I have seen commercials in Sun TV about this and read some news articles about it. Apparently, this was organized by Chennai Municipal Corporation and was attended by a lot of people. Here is a link to the story that appeared on The Hindu.
Looks like there was another kolam competition that happened in Mylapore, Chennai. I came across it through some pictures that I found in flickr.
I know there are a lot of members from Chennai. If you happen to participate in the contest or have any information, please share it with us.
Wish you all a very happy pongal!
I have posted about this previously and commented in many places. I know it is frustrating some times to come across a really nice kolam and not know the details. I feel the same way too. But, I would like to give the contributors some time to send the details. One has to keep in mind that not everyone has the time or resources to respond asap. There have been a few (like sarada) who have looked through and posted dots for some of the kolams, which I really appreciate.
First and foremost, I want to encourage people to send their work, without worrying about sending more details. In some instances, the members are sending in the work of somebody else, in which case, they can't know all the details.
In spite of many reminders there are a few who keep asking for dots (in some instances they demand, which is really rude). There is a performance issue too. Too many such comments adds to the burden of the web site, which affects everybody else.
So, as a stop gap arrangement, I have arranged so that comments go through a moderation process. Premium members don't have this restriction. This might sound draconian. But I have no other choice. I will wait for a week or so and if the situation improves, remove this restriction.
