City from your profile

When you mouse over the thumbnails on the front page, you'll see the city names of the kolams too. We were excited to realize that, each entry comes from a different place (ofcourse we all knew that), and couldn't help thinking about this idea.

Let us know if you don't want us to reveal your city.

Time constaints!

I wanted to let you all know that, going forward, I would be spending my time on ikolam publishing rangolis, managing/moderating, and answering to emails/issues etc. I like the way our long time members support each other by commenting on each other's rangolis. Due to time constraints, I may not be commenting as much on our established member's submissions.

Commenting

This post should have been written a long time back, it is late but nonetheless. This pertains to members who get their rangolis published at iKolam.

Ikolam Chennai Meet-2010

Dear members It was on March 28 last year we, the Chennai members, met for the first time at Lakshmi's house! Why not celebrate the first anniversary of our memorable meet? I suggest any of these days, namely, 27th March, 28th March, 2nd April(Good Friday), 3rd April or 4th April. Members please come out with your suggestions.

Symmetry and colouring - 2

Yesterday, I gave an account of the colouring problems we encounter when creating patterns that can be drawn on a hexagonal grid. Today I am going to deal with the problems we face when colouring basically a square pattern. These are evident in the enclosed picture.

Symmetry and colouring - 1

Many a time, I commented about symmetry and colouring on this site. In fact, it is possible that a few people might have got irritated with me and for the sake of politeness kept quiet. Today, I want to give some examples for keeping symmetry in tact while colouring. You can see in the accompanying picture four smaller pictures.

Everyday is a Valentine's day

Under the starlit skies

when we were together

I looked at you

and I looked up at the moon

I looked at you

and I did not look up at the moon

Love engulfed me

Love engulfed us

and that was years ago

Today

under the same starlit skies

I looked up at the moon

and I looked at you

I looked up at the moon again

Thoughts engulfed me

A request...

ikolam is finding it hard to keep up with some of its highly enthusiatic members, whose rangolis run in double-digits, in the rangoli queue. In order to maintain some form of a balance in publishing all of our members' works, we would like to request the following busy bees to kindly postpone uploading more files until further notice. I can't tell you how uncomfortable this makes me feel.

Photoshop turns 20!

Not a day goes by without working with you Photoshop!

Thank you Mr.Thomas Knoll.
