Arisi Upma Kozhalkattai

Raw Rice - 1 measure, water - 2-1/2 measure, salt to taste, grated coconut - 4 tblsp. For Seasoning: oil - 1 tsp, mustard 1 tsp, urad dal - 1 tsp, channa dal -1 tsp, red chillis - 1 cut finely, green chillis - 1 cut finely, curry leaves few, ginger - grated 1/2 tsp, asafoetida - 1/4 tsp.

Ingredients and method

1. Soak raw rice for 20 minutes, drain water, and dry it thoroughly.
2. Grind this coarsely to a rawa consistency.
3. Heat oil and when hot, add mustard seeds, when they splutter add channa dal, urdh dal, red and green chillies, curry leaves. Then add water along with hing and salt and bring to a nice boil.
4. Add rice rawa when water is boiling and stir continuously to avoid lumps. Once cooked, add coconut gratings and mix well.
5. Spread it on a plate and allow it to cool. Then shape them into kozhalkattais. Steam for 5 minutes and serve them hot with coconut chutney. :beer: Biggrin

Pushpa, it is one of the tiffin item in our house made frequently. You get ATHIKA brand Rice Rave readyly available in the major shops which is very handy, so that you need not do the first 2 steps.! Wink

I used to prepare this with idli rava available in the provision shop.It may be boiled rice rava,still taste good.One more addition,soak one table spoon urad dal and one table spoon tuor dal in water for 45 mts and grind coarsely and add to the boiling water before rava.It will be more yummy.
