Yes Indra, it does look a diamond stud. Patterns with combining moon and diyas, who would've thought!
Thank you mOhanaji, on behalf of Sashank and Diya too!
(Diya, here is one version of the answer to your question:
According to the Davanaagari script (Sanskrit) Shasi means moon and Aank means Eyes. The literal meaning for Shashank (pronounced as Shashaank) is Moon like Eyes or a person with moon like eyes.
Kannada meaning for Shashank (pronounced as Shashaanka) is the poet's imaginary rabit sitting on the moon.)

Outside the house, there is the moon and inside the house, there are lamps.
The full moon fills the windows formed by the lamps. By the way, the word
SaSAMka (or shashAnka) originates from the two words SaSa and aMka.
SaSa means rabbit and aMka means mark. SaSAMka means the one with the rabbit
as the mark or identity. About the moon-like eyes, you're a bit on shaky
grounds as the word for eye is aankh (the second ka) which is perhaps a
derivative of aksha (aksha also means dice as it too has eyes!).

SaSAMkaSEkhara or SaSAMkamukuTa or SaSAMkabhUshaNa or SaSAMkamauLi means Siva.
There is a very beautiful film song on Siva -
SaSAMkamauLiSObhitA prASAMtayOga dIpitA ... SaSAMkArdha means half moon,
SaSAMkarEkha or SaSAMkakala means a digit of moon. SaSAMka means moon.
