Yes, Sowmya, ikolam is blessed to have members post their festival experiences year after year, and I must add that there aren't many members who are able to do that.
Pretty hearts in green and the orange petals are so densely packed, what a neat and plush cushion of a rangoli!
Wish you and your family a happy onam. Does this mean you'll invite us for Sadhya as well? :0

Thank you Lata for your wonderful words and wishes:) ....Thanks for uploading so fast....of course there will be a sadhya on Thiruonam day and you are making yourself available for that day with your family and all our ikolam members.....Thank you julien, uma, suguna and Rani for your wonderful comments and wishes. Hope to hear the same for my upcoming uploads too.
@ Uma ..This is celebrated for a period of ten days from Hastham star to thiruonam star. On the tenth day it is believed that King Mahabali visits each and every house of his kingdom to know about the welfare of his people. So to welcome Him people decorate their houses with lots of flowers and prepare a feast( called sadhya in malayalam) and share their happiness with all.
@ Rani..Yes It was raining so heavily since friday and I was unable to shop for my flowers till Monday...but yesterday there was some sunshine and was able to buy some flowers...

Beautiful Athapookolam, Sowmi. Wishing u and your family a very happy Onam. Enjoy making colourful pookalams during these 10 days.
@Uma - Further to the explanations given by Sowmi, Avani masam hastham is the first day of Onam and the tenth day is Thiruonam (the main festival) From hastham they start making this pookalam. Since it is the first day, they make one layer kolam and decorate it with flowers. Second day, they increase the size of the pookalam by making two rounds / layers. Like this, they keep on adding the circles and finally on Thiruonam day, the pookalam will be very big in size (normally with 10 ten layers atleast) and beautiful & colourful too. But now-a-days, i'm not sure whether they do like this.
