Wow...superb creation lata....whenever u find some free time please tell me whats all about this halloween that u guys r celebrating with such great joy..eager to know about this old witch haha....:)
Thank you Rani. I'm sure you would've read Maha's reply. Halloween occurs on the Oct 31st. Kids (& some adults) like to dress up in costumes. The kids like to go around their neighborhoods trick-o-treating. They go door to door, ring the door bell, and when someone opens the door, they shout out "Trick or treat!" - which usually means they are ready to be either tricked (by pranks) or treated (with candies) by the person who answered the door. Most people are prepared and give out candies. Some people also like to trick the kids by making scary sounds. Some set up elaborate scary decorations around their house, such as turning their frontyard into make-believe cemetry and such. One of them that we visited tonight said - "You're next"! :0
The kids get lot of candies and they usually like to eat them over the next few days or so. In my house, I try to steal some every now and then from my daughter's halloween basket. I'll post a few links tomorrow, pointing to some old halloween pictures that I had posted a long time back. I had cut back a lot since the good old days. Back then I even had the patience to draw my own witch-card for the occasion (I'm referring to the one you see in this file, and carve out our Jack-o-lantern). Nowadays, I'd cut back a lot, and just make sure our kids have the costumes ready, and take them out from 6pm to 8:30pm for trick-o-treating.
Superb creation Lata. Yes, I do remember seeing this on and off in I-Kolam.
Rani, Halloween day is also called as All Souls Day / All Saint's day, which is one Christianity's Holy day. I think this is similar to like our Maalaya Patcham. (14 days before Mahalaya Ammavasai), wherein we pray for the dead ones in our family and offer some dhaanams on that day.
Oh thanks maha....now i knew something about this...only in some english movies i have seen in a party all wear kanna-binna masks (horrifying)...and dance !!! merrily...haha

Here is a picture with three Jack-o-lanterns (taken a few years back). I carved the one in the center.
