As our fellow artiste Ms.Muthulakshmi said, our ancestors used the rangoli as a medium to inform others that there is a girl or boy for marriage in their house by putting yellow pumpkin flowers with cowdung. They also used rangoli to tell the importance of THAT DAY like calender.
for new moon day(amavasai)----simple& small white rangoli(kolam)
for fridays------small or medium size padi kolam with kavi
for Vinayak chathurthi, varalakshmi pooja, for Navarathri days---big size padikolams with kavi
for Grahapraveshams or Marriages -----The white rangoli powder will be mixed with turmeric powder to do rangolis for 15days or a month and will do Their traditional house Thirumana kolams with kavi. In the afternoon U could see red aarthi water in the middle of the kolam.
for Krishna Jayanthi, Pongal Deepavali---- All U knew the kind of rangolis.
In modern days, As U all knew and seen that our Fellow friends Amudha and DD used to celebrate her children's birthday.
Rangoli is a PRIDE for Ladies.????
