Well, rAjammAjI told that she was inspired by my rangOli to draw this

But after the recent discussion on this rangOli, I thought it might be interesting to try to duplicate hers. This is my effort, even though not proportional to hers in scale. What is just drawing three or four wavy lines with wet flour is quite complicated on computer (power point is my software medium). Also, it is not easy to draw white lines on a white screen! Any way, I hope you will offer nice suggestions for improvement.

Normally flowers have only five petals. This has something to do with growth and related to the hEmachandra-Fibonacci series I spoke about recently. But thogh rare, there are a few six petalled flowers. One such flower is a sparkling blue flower. Two arrangements with it are shown. Find the difference between the two, if possible. When we draw rangOlis with dots, the symmetry is perfect if the dots are placed properly. But in nature, even if there is six-fold symmetry it is only approximate and any arrangement with such a flower is also approximate. That is why the contacts in these pictures are not perfect. The search for perfection is always through symmetry. That is why the artists in Islam used symmetric patterns in their mosques to search for the perfect.

This design is a nice representation of the original version.
Drawing white lines on a white screen; I don't think I follow you mOhanaji. Smile
So does that mean you didn't start out with a black background?

I didn't start with a black background. I worked with black and cyan colours on the usual white background and finally took the negative to get white and red colours. In fact I have a chart that has various colours and their negative colours.

mOhanaji, Padikolam on your computer medium looks perfect... bold and beautiful.

I used to wonder why I donot get comments from you for most of my kolams.Thought not upto the mark, but never imagined that one of my kolam will be an inspiration for you to draw a computer design like this.I think the credit goes not to me but to PADIKOLM only.

I also tried to make padikolam in MS paint but failed. In black background drawing white lines helps a little. but correcting by rubber is not possible. For me easy way is take the wet rice maavu and draw in the floor.

Very very nice mOhanaji...one suggestion, white and red is already representing the Lord...using shanka and also chakra could have added more to the divinity.

This was not done on MS Paint as I don't know how to use MS Paint. Photoshop is too costly Smile This was done on Microsoft Powerpoint (a part of MS Office). I used Microsoft Photomanager and Irfanview free software for manipulating the images. I have to take repeated screenshots at every stage so that it is always possible to redo from a particular stage if something goes wrong at some stage. Normally, I take two to three hours for doing symmetrical patterns with leaves, flowers, etc. This one took lot more time. I worked on this for about three days, off and on, not continuously. I had to prepare many of the individual parts of the rangOli separately and then assemble them together. As I mentioned earlier, it was all done in cyan and black and a negative of the final pattern gave the one above with black background and red and white colours. There are eight chakras (circles) to go with eight Sankhas. I never knew about paDikOlams until recently. I might have certainly witnessed them earlier, but never bothered to study the intricate details until I studied the patterns of rAjammAjI, jayAjI and dIpAjI. I am deeply grateful to them and many others. I am a no-nothing compared to numerous talented individuals on this forum.
