About It is elementary, Mohan :-) : PRINT
In the past to describe symmetry and the plane groups, I drew patterns in the dotted form which are shown below:

Suddenly, I got an idea yesterday, why not use numbers for the various rotation axes. It is so easy to understand. Accordingly the numbers 1 (for 360 deg rotation or no symmetry), 2 (for 180 deg rotation), 3 (for 120 deg rotation), 4 (for 90 deg rotation) and 6 (for 60 deg rotation) were used. Where a mirror symmetry is present with these rotations, the mirror images of the numbers were used. For only the mirror symmetry, the letter m was used. If there is interest, I will upload magnified images. Enjoy!

Very interesting. with numbers referring the symmetries,
it is easy to follow. The mirror image designs, both single and double, are done with good imagination. Great work Sir Expecting more from you!

Wow great designs sir. I liked 3,3m,4,6 and 6mm very much. 6 also looks like 9.
Sir can you pls give me some tips about drawing basic sketch (drawing) for the sankar bharathi kolam when we do huge kolams for competition and maintaining symmetry. Like circles, geometric shapes etc.

Mrs padmA, 6 inverted is 9. I cannot do much about it. Don't forget it is so in kannaDa and telugu too (kannaDa, besides hindI is one language where the regional numerals are still used in india). I wrote two blogs about colouring and symmetry long ago. I hope they will be useful. Regards! - mOhana
