Excellent kolam. beautiful design nice colouring. How do you prepare coloured sand? because the filling looks so thin (means minimal usage of powder) and colours are bright. All d best

Nice design , good symmetry.( the lines on the floor helped in maintaining the symmetry?). The choice of colors are pleasing. neatly spread colors. on the whole a perfect one.

This is one of the beautiful designs that looks stunningly symmetric like the ones sometime I do on the computer. The choice of colours too is very wise without causing distraction to the grand scheme. The lines on the floor have been admirably used as markers for the symmetry. To achieve all this on this scale is indeed a creditable achievement. Overall, brilliant. This year, I decided not to grade anyone. My dear friend, your enthusiasm and participation makes you already a winner in my opinion.

Thank you all for the comments. It was a bit challenging to get colours, as rangoli powder is rare to find here in US, and the art store had but very few colour options only for the colour sand.
@ Padma Prakash: I didn't have to prepare colour sand- we get it readymade in the art store. I use it as a substitute as rangoli powder is not so easy to get here. It is a bit coarser than rangoli powder, and a bit finer than the white kolam powder- and has about the same consistency as when you mix the rangoli powder with the white powder to dilute the color (which some people do).

What a grand and amazingly beautiful design! Your strokes are neat, and well defined. Nice usage of earthy and cool colors. We can see that the design is evenly divided against the four squares of concrete; in other words - completely symmetric. You've made the very best of what you could get your hands on, and it doesn't get any better than this.
Best wishes and thank you so much for participating in the contest.
Rangoli contest 2010 results will be announced on November 20th at 6:00pm Pacific Standard Time (that will be November 21st 7:30am Indian Standard Time)
