Don't know how far this is true but I received this email from a friend and I don't see any harm if this is tried out as it is quite safe. Can someone let us know if the results are good??
Take two pieces of Ladies Fingers (Bhind/Okra) and remove/cut both ends of each piece. Also put a small cut in the middle and put these two pieces in glass of water. Cover the glass and keep it at room temperature during night. Early morning, before breakfast simply remove two pieces of ladies fingers from the glass and drink the water.
Keep doing it on a daily basis.
Within two weeks, you will see remarkable results in reduction of your SUGAR

I am not sure of the above. However, I know for certain that eggplant (brinjals) and beans have enormous curative powers for diabetes.

Eating ladies finger raw? Something I've never done so far.![Smile](https://www.ikolam.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
Since we're talking about paati vaidhyams (home remedies), do any one of you have any tips regarding reducing cholesterol level? This is for somebody who has moderately high levels, and who has been put on Simvastin (a cholesterol reducing drug). We all know that individual cases vary, and each body type is different, and all disclaimers apart...![Smile](https://www.ikolam.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
Any tip would be enlightening. Thanks.

Eggplants contain compounds known as phenols that reduce blood sugar. Green beans contain a compund similar to glucagon, that has the opposite effect of glucose. Even dried beans are good for this purpose. These reduce the glucose levels by about 30 to 50 points if taken in the night meal (the optimum level is 100 for a non-diabetic patient and at least 200 for a diabetic patient). In fact one should be careful in taking the normal medicine if these dishes are consumed. I read somewhere that they are doing some research on eggplants in Tamilnadu. Here are some references:

By the way, I am only a scientist, not a medical doctor. You must always follow your personal physician's advice in all matters concerning your health.

Eggplants? Blech! Why can't potatoes contain all the good stuff?![Smile](https://www.ikolam.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
Na, don't bother answering to that.
Speaking of doctors, doesn't ikolam have any doctor members? Not even one? I'm sure they are there, but better to be quite, otherwise, they might be asked questions like...![Smile](https://www.ikolam.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
I think it is time to update the profile page with more questions (ofcourse more of the optional ones).

Eggplant is supposed to be one of the best vegetables in God's creation
There is a poem in Telugu praising it to skies. It goes like this:
vaMkAyavaMTi kUrayu
laMkApati vairivaMTi rAjunu galaDE
SaMkarunivaMTi daivamu
paMkajamukhi sItavaMTi paDatiyu galadE
వంకాయవంటి కూరయు
లంకాపతి వైరివంటి రాజును గలడే
శంకరునివంటి దైవము
పంకజముఖి సీతవంటి పడతియు గలదే
There is no vegetable like the eggplant,
there is no king like rAma,
there is no god like Sankara,
and there is no woman like sItA.

At last, here is a nice poem that doesn't go over my head.![Smile](https://www.ikolam.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
Eggplants (the insides with seeds) reminded me of snake's skin while growing up, and so never found it appealing. But, this is one of my better half's favorite vege, and so learned to like eggplants & bitter gourds later on (sort of).![Smile](https://www.ikolam.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
