In this picture, we highlight the yellow building seen on the top, called the Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz Island is an island located in the San Francisco Bay, about a mile away from San Francisco, California. This island served as a lighthouse, and a prison for notorious prisoners. In 1972, this island became a national recreation area as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Alcatraz is popular, and has been featured in many movies and shows.
It is believed that a few prisoners managed to escape the high walls of this prison, but were drowned trying to swim away in the cold waters of the bay.
