Rangoli: My navarAtri rangOli and doll display

Please read the contents at http://www.ikolam.com/node/25318 in order to understand and appreciate this pattern. As I mentioned in the blog, building squares in a triangular fashion yields a single line chikku kOlam. Taking it and rotating it by 90, 180 and 270 deg and building all into a square gives a pattern with two lines. If the triangular base has three squares, we get a very simple and familiar pattern. With five squares at the base, a bit more complicated pattern results. How these were obtained was explained in detail there. Today, I am presenting the next two patterns in this progression with seven and nine squares at the base of the triangle. I added a twist to the whole exercise. Each bigger pattern contains the next smaller pattern inscribed into it after a rotation of 45 deg. Thus we have in the same rangOli patterns with 9, 7, 5 and 3 squares at the base of the triangle. Each of these patterns has only two lines. I call this not only rangOli, but also a display of dolls because for it, there should be dolls. The whole rangOli is like matryoshka dolls, one inside the other. In this respect, the pattern inside the pattern inside the pattern inside the pattern is like the matryoshka dolls. Enjoy!

The kolam might be familiar to many. I just tried drawing it digitally. I designed this in Macromedia flash software. Smile
