Happy Holi!

Bidding adieu to the cold and rainy winter, it is the time to welcome the season of spring with the festival of colors! Wish you all a splashy and a joyful holi!

Holi is a happy start to the spring season and we are celebrating it the best way we know how- by inviting you all to create a colorful, splashy, and O so bold rangoli. But, holi is not just about playing with colors, is it? There is also an element of unpredictability, a tinge of naughtiness lurking around to jump on you. With this thought in mind, we are hoping to see some of you create rangolis and then…splash colors on it! Smile That’s right, we were hoping you would not only play holi with you and yours, but would also play holi with the special things you create. Is that a bit too much to ask? That’s exactly what we are hoping to see here at ikolam. Please create a rangoli, and then after your celebrations are done for the day, take a fistful of color and play holi smack on top of your rangoli! We know how hard it must be to “spoil” your lovely creation, but, please go ahead and do it. Also, don’t forget to send us a before and after picture of your rangoli celebrating holi. In case you do, it might turn out to be the best of the lot and win a treat or a goody! Smile We sure hope you’ll give it a try.

We would like to hear about your favorite holi movie songs too. "Rang barse" from Silsila (a hindi movie) is an all time favorite. I’m also thinking of one from Nayagan (tamil movie). What are yours? Am I the only one missing my childhood days of playing with pichkari and dumping buckets of water from the terrace onto the passersby? The temples here in California are hosting holi celebrations this weekend and we plan to attend one of them. The attendees are allowed to use the color powder (gulal) but the water play with balloons and pichkaris are not allowed. That doesn’t prevent me from filling up some fifty or so water balloons for my daughters and letting them have a good time in my backyard! After all, HOLI HAI!! Smile

well about holi song, i remember a bhaghya raj song holi holi holi in rasukutti which looks sooooooo grt with his splendid dance performance (sorry exercises he he he ), it was during our skool days v used to comment on his funny dance steps,
i had a north indian friend seema who used to bring holi pwdrs to college and play with us, we played in our classrooms during lunch. our afternoon 1st hr lecturer sr.nirmala got red hot angry on all of us and made us stay that eve and wash the entire commerce block. but v guys just enjoyed washing by singing d song sorgam enbadhu namaku sutham ulla veedu than in nammavar film.
though she punished us all v really had a fantastic time in both playing and washing, thats college life isnt it frnz............

Belated wishes dear latha mam. Hope you and daughters had fun playing Holi. Holika dahan was celebrated on 19th and we played with colours on 20th here. Holi is a very important festival in north India. It starts with the decent wishing applying gulal tikka on each other, play and fun starts with flowers- then colours- pitchkaris and buckets follow. In flats and societies it extends to hose pipes, the fire hydrants are turned on to drench the whole group and the fun goes on and on till lunch. The lunch with gujiyas and tandai tastes soooooooo good after the drenching game. Its even more fun to see people the next day in multicolours!!!

Oh! I forgot to mention. There were several holi songs blaring out of each society - rang barse...., holi ke din..., holi aayi re aayi re...., rang de basanti..... etc adding to the chaos. My all time favourite is holi ke din..... from Sholay
