Red Chilli Chutney!

Red Jalapeno peppers chutney with Idli or dosa

The main ingredient in this recipe is fresh red Jalapeno peppers. Refer here for a picture of Jalapeno peppers: http://www.ikolam.com/node/7402

Ingredients:

* Red Jalapeno peppers – about 6 to 8, washed and de-stalked
* Half of an onion- roughly chopped, (I used yellow onion).
* half tsp of salt or as needed
* about one-fourth cup of water to blend them together
* a tsp of vegetable oil, ½ tsp of mustard seeds, curry leaves for seasoning
* a few spoons of sesame oil to finally mix in the chutney while serving.

Grind the peppers, salt and onions together with the water into a smooth paste and set aside. Take a frying pan, add ½ spoon of oil and when it is hot enough, temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add the chutney paste into the pan and fry it for a few minutes, stirring constantly. The red chutney can be stored in the fridge for a few days and is not too spicy. Adding a tsp of sesame oil to it while serving with idli gives it a nice flavor and adds to the taste. I hope you like it as much as we do.

In Bangalore,a red color chutney is smeared on the Masala Dosai along with the potato masala.Could anyone tell me the recipee of that chutney?

Oh oh! I was wrong!
I had gone to the store yesterday to buy these red chillies, and was able to confirm, that these are not Cayenne peppers! I'm so sorry for giving out the wrong name of the kind of red pepper Sad

The red peppers used in this chutney is Jalapeno peppers. I've uploaded a picture of it in the Food section. Please check it out. The heat of this pepper is less than that of the Cayenne peppers.
