This nephew got engaged on Jan 27, 2010 and this was the jadai decoration done by me for the bride-to-be. I had learned a different method to tie flowers from one of my friends and used that technique here. The colour of the wool used is to match the colour of her saree which was rani pink. Since the pattern is not too clear on the jadai, I put a small bit on the head of her cousin and took a picture for everyone to enjoy :) (I used nithyamalli here)

Anirudh it is a cute advertisement, but you see these days kids prefer to have short hair because their mothers would want them to oil and plait their hair if it was long - which they would love to leave loose instead without any oil at all.. My niece (who is married and has a 3 year old son) has never plaited her hair at all for many many years (only on the day of her marriage and seemantham she was forceably made to do so) - that is phashon (I mean fashion) you see.. Thank you Anantharajam for your sweet comment.. Lata actually Anita too likes to grow her hair too but since she has bit of a wavy texture the length does not show correctly.. Actually I too sometimes get tired of long hair - maintaining it, combing it etc. etc. becomes a real pain but when I see eyes of envy I just cant cut it. I too can proudly say that I have the longest hair in my family both maternal and inlaw's side. At my nephew's engagement last month - someone from the girl's side wanted to know if it was false hair and I had to literally make them pull my hair to prove them wrong (haha)..

It is interesting to know how you feel about it Judy. I got tired of being the one with the longest hair (braid) while growing up, and then in my law's house too. During the school years (in the north), the aunties would want to measure/feel my hair, to make sure if it was real (the usual comment; yeh asli he yaa nakli?). After a few years of living in the US, I'm no longer obsessed with keeping my long hair long anymore. :)

Hehe Rajamma this girl also used false hair and I also polambifying with you on the same thing. Manickavachakam thanks for your comments and though I also lost my hair to more than half its original thickness I still dont have the heart to cut it.

Why worry about learning this art?which girl is ready to grow her hair long to put pinnal or put flowers in that? OK..only on the wedding time we can do that to hide the false hair pinnal. We can surely demo this in the next meet (when is it Lakshmi??) :)

Very nice, Judy! I tie jadhi malli in this fashion. I've seen this type of sarams being sold in some parts of Kerala, esp. for 'jadai alangaram'. We will have a demo in our next meet, ok?

Judy it looks so nice that it looks like you have zipped the flowers. the centre line in green is looking great in between the two pink wollen threads. I am very anxious to learn this type. are they two different threads or a single threads?
I think you are referring to the one that Lakshmi has done Sudha 'dindu'(look in the same section culture flower tying done by Lakshmi) and it would be my pleasure to teach you too :)
Heyyyyy Judy, It is really nice, you have to teach me, Nice decoration around the jadebillai, I know two types of tying flowers one is the usual one and they say dindu which means it comes like a garland. a good topic from usual kolams, i am enjoying it.
